Lemonade Day Boston: May 5, 2012 photos

lemonade for sale!

Lemonade Day Boston, May 5, 2012 in front of the Wellesley store
Nicholas’ lemonade stand

On May 5th Nicholas, above, participated in Lemonade Day Boston sponsored by Babson College by having this FANTASTIC lemonade stand in front of our Wellesley store. What a budding entrepreneur!

On that Saturday, there were nearly 1,000 lemonade stands launched by Boston area kids. The event was attended by Babson President Schlesinger, Former New England Patriot founder, Matt Chatham, Lisa Donovan of Kiss 108’s Matty in the Morning Show and Chacarero Owner, Juan Hurtado. It was a success!

The idea of the event is to teach: “business basics, teamwork and self-direction to elementary and middle school students. Lemonade Day also teaches the power of philanthropy…” Children had the option of sharing a portion of their earnings with local charities.

We hope to see dozens of more lemonade stands as the season warms up to a peak! And what a great idea to not only help your kids realize that they have the power to earn money, but to then encourage them to give a portion to charity (no matter how small). Send us photos of your own lemonade stands throughout the summer or post to our facebook wall. We would love to see!

Celebrate Children’s Book Week

20% off any book

In honor of Children’s Book Week we’re inviting you to take 20% off any one children’s book until Monday, May 14th! Just print the image to the left and bring it in to either store. Reading with your children not only fosters your relationship, but it develops your child’s abilities to narrate and organize the world. We have both classics like Dr. Seuss and new classics like Knuffle Bunny a cautionary tale by Mo Willems (with musical CD included).

For more information on Children’s Book Week, visit their official site: here. Download a free bookmark (illustrated by the brilliant Lane Smith) and check out the events page for local happenings at Wellesley Books. We always support children reading, but what a great excuse to celebrate it. Read with your kids or let them read to you! Have fun. Lastly, check out the beautiful Book Week poster below designed by David Wiesner.

New games are budding!

Roll & Play $19.99

It’s the time of year for new things (buds, seedlings, sandals) and there’s a bunch of new games from some of our old favorite suppliers like Gamewright, Educational Insights and Thinkfun. (Join us Friday, May 18th for Family Game Night to test them out yourself with your family!) It’s a wonder that they can churn out new board games all the time. These games have real value at the perfect price for a birthday gift. Here’s one of our new favorites for toddlers.

Roll and Play from Thinkfun Toys (makers of Rush Hour)
18 mo.! and up

This is a very simple very first game for the youngest of game players. As Thinkfun explains: To play, simply toss the big plush cube and identify which colored side faces up. Choose a matching color card and perform the simple activity shown: “Make a happy face,” “Moo like a cow.” The activities supported by Roll & Play are designed to help your child shine, supporting healthy development and celebrating success! Roll & Play is the ideal way to gently introduce play patterns and rules through a loving, joyful play experience!
For 2 or more players – your toddler will love playing with you!
