A “staycation” activity: Monet’s Water Lilies

Water Lilies Master Kit $29.95

Here’s an idea for those of you going on a “staycation” next week when the kids are home from school: have a Water Lily day. First, visit the MFA to take in Monet’s original masterpieces from 1907. The Museum is open 7 days a week–opens at 10. (Wed.  – Fri. they are open late and admission is a voluntary contribution after 4 on Wednesday.) Children under 6 are always free, while 7 to 17-y.o.’s are free every day after 3pm, weekends, and Boston public holidays (Monday!).

Next, enjoy trying your own Water Lilies at home with our new Water Lilies Master Kit from Kidzaw, $29.95: ages 4 to 104. (Small parts; choking hazard for children under 3). If you keep your museum receipt and show it to us, we’ll give you 20% off the Water Lilies kit! The kit includes everything you and your kids need to make masterpieces of your own: reusable art box, 2 water lily stencils, 9 colored soft pastels, 2 pieces of art paper, a color blending tool, one shadow maker tool, illustrated Monet learning materials, easy-to-follow instructions. Check out the video below for a demonstration. Have fun!

Check out the Kidzaw website for other tips and ideas for art projects and techniques your kids can try. Wherever you go next week - have a great one!

How to measure a jump rope

8-ft. Jump Rope $5.99

To celebrate Valentine’s Day and National Hearth Month, take 20% off all jump ropes tomorrow at both stores! Have a sweet and healthy 14th!

But for safety, here’s how to measure a jump rope for your child:

1. Have them stand on the rope in the middle.
2. The handles should come up just short of the armpits.
3. Pull it up and knot it there.

If you are at the store and trying to decide which one to buy, here’s a guideline: according to jumprope.com, a 7-foot rope is ideal for kids up to 4 feet, 10 inches tall, and an 8-foot rope works for children up to 5 feet 3 inches tall. Use 9-foot ropes for kids who are up to 5 feet 10 inches tall. Read more here. We offer two sizes: 8 ft. for $5.99 and 16 ft. for $11.99, both of which you can trim down to size.

Jumping rope is an excellent way to break from the screen and get some fresh air and exercise – get hopping!
